Subterra is an underground infrastructure for sound in Den Haag. Located on level −2 in a former nuclear bunker, it provides long-term conditions for artistic practice and deep listening.
It houses studios for resident artists, and hosts a program of listening sessions, performances, and gatherings in De Kern, its communal space.

↘De Kern
De Kern is the old canteen of the bunker, now Subterra's communal space. The original tables and benches remain. The walls are lined with acoustic panels, and a 3D-printed Addit Audio soundsystem is suspended through the room.

↘Studios
Seventeen studios line the hallway around De Kern, ranging from 11 to 37 m². Each is open for acoustic and interior finishing by the tenant, to suit the work that happens inside.
Three are box-in-box constructions: a floating space within the space, for maximum isolation.

↘Cold war bunker
Built in the 1970s as part of the Dutch emergency government infrastructure, the bunker was designed to house civil servants in the event of a nuclear attack.
It was decommissioned in 2013. The space was reopened in 2024, in partnership with the Municipality of Den Haag.
